Embellishing Real Garland for the Holidays

Hello friends,

We’re only a week away from Christmas! Wow! I know that many of you are probably finished with your holiday decorating, but I like to wait until we’re about 2 weeks away from Christmas to put up my real evergreen garland. Why? Well, because it tends to get dry so fast and I don’t like to clean up after it! :-)

So, in this post, I’m showing you ideas on how to embellish your real garland to give it character as you hang it. I’ll use my staircase as an example of what I do. I like to pick my garland up from Costco because it is so affordable and comes in 9’ sections but a local garden shop or grocery store may also carry it. You can also use these tips on faux garland, too!

Here’s the process I use in decorating with real garland:

1. Attach garland with pipe cleaners, twine or wire ribbon.

This year, I used black ribbon to attach my garland to the banister. I think it looks classy and therefore I don’t mind it showing but if you prefer your ribbon not to show, I recommend wire or a green pipe cleaner

2. Attach bows/ribbon to sections.

I hang the bows from the areas where I’ve attached the garland to the banister. I like to use two types of ribbon (both tied together) - which gives it a bit more flair. Isn’t this striped ribbon that I found at Michael’s Store so classy?

3. Add store bought seeded eucalyptus.

I tuck the eucalyptus into the ribbon/wire that is holding the garland and continue to tuck it into the rest of the garland.

4. Add pinecones to the top of the bows.

Again, I attach these with my black ribbon or pipe cleaners. Another idea is to add bells or ornaments and let them hang down your garland.

Stand back and admire all of your hard work! :-)

Can we all agree that greenery - whether it be garland on a stairway or on a table - is the perfect addition to any holiday decor?

Merry Christmas, dear friends! Hoping your Christmas is full of memory making moments.

Sending you Christmas hugs from afar -

Lisa xoxo
