A Budget-Friendly Powder Room Makeover

Hello friends! I know it's been awhile since I've written as I've been traveling quite a bit lately.  A few weeks ago, I had the awesome opportunity to share my heart at a women's retreat in Kentucky and last week, my husband and I were in Boston encouraging some local pastors/leaders.  Encouraging pastors and leaders is one of my favorite things to do alongside of decorating!

My husband and I had one week at home and guess what we decided to do? Yep...another project! (Hee Hee! I know....we're crazy!) We decided to update our downstairs 1/2 bath or what many call - a Powder Room.  You may not believe me - but this was my hubby's idea! (Usually I'm the one driving our projects, but not this time!)

Here are some before pics....

Well, I give you permission to cringe.  It's a pretty boring bathroom with no character. Plus, what's with the disgusting hand towels? Doesn't anyone wash these?! ha!

So, here was our plan:

1.  Paint the walls.

I really wanted to go with a darker color in this room, but to be honest, I was a bit nervous because this space doesn't have any windows to bring in natural light.  Well, I ended up going with my gut and painting it much darker.  The color I chose was Sherwin Williams - Peppercorn (SW7674).

2.  Replace the pedestal sink with a new vanity.

I don't mind a pedestal sink, but I really wanted some space for extra towels, toilet paper and soaps.  We found a new cabinet/sink from Ikea that gives this space some modern charm that I'm really loving right now. Click here to view.

With this unit, we added a countertop sink and a white counter base.  Click here to view.

3.  Add wood shelves behind the toilet.

I chose these floating wood shelves with a ledge from Target.  I love them because they have a small ridge on them which is perfect for holding up pictures.  Click here to view.

4.  Accessorize.

It's amazing how accessories can really make a room come to life.  As you can see from my before pics, this powder room really needed some fun accessories to bring it into the 21st century!

One of the easiest ways to breathe life into any space is to add pictures.  I had this canvas print made from photography.com that specializes in turning your personal photos into custom prints.  This picture was one that I took while we were vacationing in Venice last year.  Isn't it gorgeous?!

I chose to go black and white for my canvas, but there are many other options/styles to choose from, too!

Here are the things that I love about photography.com:

  • Their canvas is 100% true stretched canvas (meaning it's not the cheap waxy feel of "canvases" you'll find at most home stores.).
  • They use high definition printing.
  • You can choose a standard or thick edge option.
  • It ships ready to hang. (I love this!)

This company has a great deal going on right now with a buy 1, get 3 free special.  Yes, you heard that right...buy 1, get 3 free!! Click here to see special.

I also love how this picture is wrapped around the edges of the canvas.  I can't stress enough how much I love how photography.com made this picture come to life!

So, are you ready to see some AFTER pics of our Powder Room? Here they are....enjoy!
